Eugene R. Miller

Eugene R. Miller, age 72, loving husband, step-father, and grandfather passed away on May 11, 2024 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Gene was born May 27, 1951, in Alliance, Ohio, and graduated from Marlington High School with honors.  He graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of Akron and became a computer analyst at First Energy.  His favorite pastime was playing the trumpet or “horn” as he called it. He had many long-time friends he met as band members.  Gene’s greatest accomplishment was the example he set for a loving, faithful marriage and as a kind and compassionate stepfather.  He was loved, honored, and respected by his family and friends.

Kids and grandchildren were what made him happy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Dorothy Miller of Alliance and his brother Jim Miller of Phoenix, Arizona. He is survided by his devoted wife and best friend, Sandy, daughter and son-in-law, Deanna (Haas) and Brent Turns of Parma, son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Carla (Hoisington) Haas of Hudson, and five loving grandchildren, Grace, Sarah, and Matthew Kress,  Ryan Slama and Brooklynn Haas.

Gene’s kindness and dedication to family and work will remain an inspiration to all.  A special thank you to the physicians, nurses, pharmacists and staff at the Seidman Cancer Center at SJMC for the superior care given to him over the past seven years.  His guidance, laughter and generosity will forever be ingrained in the memories of those who loved and knew him.

Services will be held at Vito-Nero Funeral Home, 6130 Turney Rd. Garfield Hts., OH 44125 on Friday, May 17th from 5:00pm-7:00pm.

Deborah Y. Smith

Deborah Yvonne Smith (nee Miller) was born on March 11, 1956 in Cleveland, Ohio. Deborah met her high school sweetheart Raymond E. Smith Sr. in 1972. They married on January 27, 1980 and were later blessed with three children.  She started her career at Ford Motor Company in 1994 at the Walton Hills Stamping Plant, and later transferred to the Lima Engine Plant where she excelled and accomplished many goals. Deborah participated in many work and community activities. She was on the Women's committee, and the Diversity and Inclusion committee, where she taught classes to new hires. Deborah was also on the executive board and was the current Vice President of Union Local 1219 (2nd term).  She loved her family deeply and looked forward to their gatherings and vacations.  Her kindness, compassion, and support are what made it so easy to gravitate towards her, and her positive energy was highly contagious. She leaves behind her beloved husband Raymond Sr.; children Chanel, Raymond Jr., and Richard; grandchildren Imani, Na'Talya, Zuri, and a whole host of family and friends. Deborah is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lucy (nee McDaniel) Miller and her siblings Angela “Angie” Jennings (Jeffrey) and Edward “Dusty” Gordon (Pat).

 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Vito-Nero Funeral Home 6130 Turney Road Garfield Hts., OH 44125 (2 blocks south of Rockside). Concluding prayer will begin at 1:45 p.m.

Joan Mary Miller

May 30, 1946 - November 23, 2021

Joan Mary Miller (nee Hammond) age 75 entered into the presence of the Holy Spirit surrounded by her family and friends on Wednesday, November 23, 2021. Beloved mother, sister, and grandmother. Daughter of the late Jessie and Robert Hammond; mother of Kenneth Miller (Phyllis), Pamela Benedict, and Rebekah McCreery; grandmother of Alex, Greg, Elizabeth, David, Antoinette, and Zach; sister of Lynette Webber and the late Michael LaTina; dear friend of many. Joan will always be remembered for the compassion and love to everyone who touched her life, both as a professional and private caregiver. She will always be known for her gregarious sense of humor. "We will see you mom on the other side for our next water fight."

A private celebration of life and memorial will be held at Jennings Chapel in Garfield Heights on a future date.

Alberta M. Richardson

February 14, 1930 - September 23, 2019

Alberta Richardson 89 went home to be with our lord on Monday Sept. 23,2019 due to a long battle with cancer. She was born on February 14th, 1930 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the daughter of Henry & Marie Funkhauser. She had one brother (Pat). 

Alberta grew up in Fayetteville, Arkansas and later moved to Ohio, where she met the Love of her life Donald Richardson Sr. Donald & Alberta were married August 27, 1947. During this marriage they raised five children together (Rita, Donnie, Genie, Anna, & Dana). They remained a loving couple until the passing of Donald Sr. on January 16th, 2004. 

Alberta visited a few career paths, but ultimately landed as one of the best beauty consultants that Northeast Ohio has ever had. She worked for May Company, Higbees, & Dilliards collectively for over forty years, where she received multiple awards & recognitions. Alberta had contact with multiple celebrities such as Dick Goddard, Robin Swoboda, Patti Labelle, Usher, & Iman to name a few, but the thousands of people that she met and had some type of effect on is what made her the happiest. 

Alberta was one of the most beautiful and caring persons that you would ever want to meet. She often put the needs of others before her own. Alberta freely shared her smile and heart with those she cared for most. Alberta’s smile and soft voice will be missed by many. 

Alberta was preceeded in death by her parents (Henry & Marie), Husband (Donald Sr.), Brother (Pat), Children (Rita, Donald Jr., Anna), Grandchild (Damian), Great Grandchild (Ashley). She is survived by Children (William Eugene & Dana Maurice), Eighteen grandchildren and a host of Great & Great Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family.
