Opal Irene Evans

January 9, 1926 - May 4, 2021

Opal Irene Evans (nee Franklin) age 95, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021 at Governor’s Village Assisted Living.  She lived with her beloved husband, the late Henry M. Evans in Garfield Hts. OH for 66 yrs. Opal grew up in Knoxville TN.  She came to Cleveland to attend Medical Technology School, and met the love her life, Henry, who was on leave from the Army at the time. They were married in 1947, had 5 children and celebrated 73 years of marriage. Opal worked for several doctors in the Cleveland area, was a talented seamstress, cake decorator and ceramist. Her children, grandchildren and friends benefited greatly from her talents. She was extremely proud of her children: Dale Michael Evans (deceased), Sherry Louise Ball (Carl), Vanessa Jeanne Evans (Harold Zion), Karen Marie Kendrick and Charles Melvin Evans (Kathy); grandchildren: Jason Evans, Ben Evans, Diana Holden, Alicia Gorman, Christopher Ball, Reagan Leatherman, Chelsey Evans; great grandchildren: Mia Gorman, Chloe Gorman, Jacob Ball, Thomas Holden, Irene Holden, Mary Holden, Charlotte Holden and Abigail Smith. 

Family will receive friends on Monday, May 10 from 7-8 p.m. at Vito-Nero Funeral Home 6130 Turney Rd. Garfield Hts., OH 44125.  

Burial will be on Tuesday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070 (PLEASE MEET AT THE CEMETERY). In Lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Memory of Opal I. Andrew Earl Rockwell

September 12, 1958 - April 27, 2021

Andrew Earl Rockwell, 62, of Richfield, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 after a brief but intense battle with cancer. Andrew, a lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, graduated from Medina HS in 1975 and worked for 23 years as the Products Quality Control Manager for Valley Tool and Die in North Royalton. He loved old cars, house projects, working in his yard and especially spending time with his family. Andrew is survived by Gayle, his wife of 32 years; mother, Nancy Cressman (father, Norman Rockwell, deceased); sisters, Becky (Phil), Maribeth (Rick) and Karen (Patrick); he is also survived by his wife's parents, Mel and Sandy Skerbec and brothers-in-law, Joe (Chris), Dan and Dave; he was a wonderful uncle to nine nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews. 

A service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Medina First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Donations can be made to the family to help with medical expenses or to the American Diabetes Association.

 

Andrew Caldarelli

June 3, 1949 - April 28, 2021

Andrew M. Caldarelli passed away at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Kristine Caldarelli; father of Amber Caldarelli; Grandfather of Christopher Winn, Anthony D’Amico, Kara D’Amico, Ryan D’Amico; son of Andrea & Esther Caldarelli (both deceased). Andrew served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Naval Forces. During his service he fought in the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal. Andrew also had a successful career as a Professional Wrestling Referee and made close ties to those in the Wrestling community. He enjoyed watching all sports, but particularly loved all of his Cleveland teams. At any given time, you could find a game on his TV, and he would be ready to tell you all about it. Anyone who has ever interacted with Andrew could also tell you about his unique sense of humor and outlook on life. He could always bring joy to those around him. He was always willing to help anyone, at any time, always knew the right answer, and would go to the ends of the earth for those he loved. Andrew touched the lives of many and will be missed widely and deeply.

Service and forum to share memories of Andrew’s life will be from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Vito-Nero Funeral Home 6130 Turney Road, Garfield Hts., OH 44125 (2 blocks south of Rockside).  A procession will proceed directly after the service to Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery for a traditional Military burial to begin at 12:30 pm sharp. 

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 7-9 pm.

September 15, 1937 - April 28, 2021

Devoted husband of Suzanne M. Horvath (nee Horvath); loving father of Jennifer, Christopher and Stephen (Carrie); grandfather of Brienna Bowles; brother of Ronald (Paula) and Julianna Baillis; brother-in-law of John (Pam); uncle of numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Preceded in death by brother Louis (Carol) and brother-in-law Frederick Baillis.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 5-8pm at Vito-Nero 6130 Turney Road, Garfield Heights.

Alice D. Simon (nee Graziadei), age 87, beloved wife of the late Roger Simon; dear mother of Joyce Sullivan (Tim), John (Mary Beth), Janet Solomon (John), Marty, Mike (Andrea), and Roger (Madelyn deceased); cherished grandmother of Tim (Abby), Caitlin and Brian, John Patrick, Tom (Alex), Eric, Brandon, Brittany, Samantha, Nick and Chelsea (Sean), Sara, James, Bill (deceased) and Brittany. Loving and devoted great grandmother of Timmy, Jackson, Joe, Samantha, Farah, Luca, Hunter, Lorelei, Oliver and Penelope. Jerry T. Koberna Jr.

January 19, 1949 - March 27, 2021

On Saturday, March 27, 2021, Jerry Thomas Koberna Jr. passed away at the age of 72. Jerry Jr. was born on January 19, 1949. He is preceded in death by his mother, Norma; father, Jerry; and son, Christopher. Jerry is survived by his son, Jerome (Jeannine Umpleby); his three siblings, Bob (Karen), Jeff, and Terry (John); his four nephews, David (Megan), Bobby, Dan (Sarah), Bill, and niece, Kristin; his two great-nephew’s Brayden and Daxton; and great-niece, Sophia. He was a friend to many and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran. He enjoyed watching old western televisions shows or war movies, playing the lottery, and a beer or two at the Maple Grove. 

On Friday, May 14, 2021 at 9:45 a.m. Jerry will receive a full military send off at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, OH 44270.

Florence Sadowski (nee Kriak)

January 15, 1933 - April 16, 2021

Florence D. Sadowski passed on to her eternal home on April 16, 2021 at the age of 88. She was born on January 15, 1933 in Cleveland.  She resided in the Cleveland area for most of her life and later moved to Copley.  She was a devoted parishioner of the Catholic Church and attended St Monica’s in Garfield Heights. The matriarch of an extensive and loving family, her absence will be felt dearly in the hearts of many.  She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Anna Kriak, her husband Joseph Sadowski, her siblings Helen Basak, Charles Kriak, George Kriak, and her grandson Gary Walkuski.  She is survived by her five children, Victoria (Gary) Walkuski, Mark (LuAnn) Sadowski, Joseph (Veronica) Sadowski, David (Connie) Sadowski, Susan (Michael) Case, 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.  Flo was a woman of humble beginnings who, through perseverance and devotion, provided a wonderful life for her family.  She worked hard and found joy in accomplishment.  Through love and nurturing, she wove seeds of herself into all she knew.  An accomplished seamstress who sewed everything from her daughter’s wedding dress to pajamas for charity, she cloaked others in the work of her own hands. She and her sister traveled extensively desiring to see and understand the world her Lord had given.  She was an artist of nature, renowned for gardens where she combined both knowledge and inspiration to create beauty.  She lived well and in death was willing and eager to meet her eternal Father.  May we all be so fortunate. 

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday April 20th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Vito-Nero Funeral Home 6130 Turney Road Garfield Hts., OH 44125 (2 blocks south of Rockside). 

The funeral mass will be held on April 21st at 11:00 am at St Monica’s Church 13623 Rockside Rd, Garfield Heights. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Catholic Masses be dedicated in Florence’s honor. 

Salvatore Straziuso

It is with great sympathy that the Straziuso family announces the death of their patriarch, Salvatore Straziuso (89). Salvatore devoted his life to his late wife and soulmate Julia, his 4 loving children; Joseph (Toni), Antoinette (Scott), Maria, Gloria (Val), his 13 beautiful grandchildren; Jon (Megan), Jessica, Hayley (Kyle), Julia, Megan, Kelsey (Derek), Emilee, Valentino, Salvatore, Natalie (Sam), Destiny, Matthew, Dante, his 8 great grandchildren; Carter, James, Skylar, Josephine, Aubrey, Jacob, Brooklyn, Lucas and to being a hardworking and respectable worker. He is now at peace being reunited with the love of his life eternally, hand in hand. A small service will be held for immediate family. Beloved husband of Kimberly (nee Tayfel); father of Maria; son of Olivio and Mary (nee McNelis) Pallini (both deceased); brother of Bernard, Gary (Debbie), and Gail (Lee); dearest uncle and friend of many. Patrick enjoyed doing crafts, fishing, and golf. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
