Vito-Nero Funeral Home

Joseph M. Nero

Joseph Michael Nero

June 23, 1956 – July 4, 2022

Beloved husband of the late Janice M. (nee Moran); father of Joseph A. (Julie) and Angelo; son of Armand J. Sr. and Lois (nee Vito) (both deceased); brother of Robert (Dawn) and Armand Jr. (deceased); uncle of Robert, Samantha, and Peter (deceased), nephew, cousin, dear friend of Beth and friend of many (including the four legged-kind, Arnold and Maverick).

Joe was the instrument of joy in the lives of so many, a true selfless man.  He dedicated himself to his heritage, his faith, his community, and his family.  For decades Joe was an active participant in various groups and organizations in the Northeast Ohio community including the Baranello Lodge, Special Olympics, St. Monica’s Church, Garfield Heights/Padua/North Royalton Hockey Programs, Ohio Funeral Director Association, and the Village of Valley View.  He served all with genuine joy and pleasure.

Joe was a third-generation funeral director who followed in the considerable footsteps of his grandfather (Joseph J. Vito) and mother (Lois).  He succeeded them with excellence as he dedicated himself to serving those in need with the utmost respect and reverence.

Joe protected and cared for his oldest brother (Armand Jr.) for the majority of his life and supported his late wife (Janice) amidst her quest to cure Type 1 Diabetes.  Joe was the epitome of a father in the way he cared for his two boys Joey and Angelo.  He sacrificed plenty to ensure a better life for his boys.

He will be missed greatly by many but mostly by humanity as he was the pinnacle of what is good in the world.

Services will be held on Friday, July 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Monica Church. (Please Meet at the Church). The family will receive friends at Vito-Nero Funeral Home, 6130 Turney Rd, Garfield Heights on Thursday, July 7 from 3-8 p.m.

If you would like to make contributions in lieu of flowers, the family will be making contributions in Joseph’s name to several charities including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and a Special Wish Cleveland. Gifts can be made at the following link:
