William Joseph Petrovic

William Joseph Petrovic, 96, passed away peacefully on June 28,2019 in his home in Beachwood, Ohio. He was born on March 5, 1923 in Willoughby, Ohio to Thomas and Mary JernejcicPetrovic. Bill grew up in Willoughby, Ohio. He graduated from Willoughby High School in 1941. After high school he attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where he began working on his degree in civil engineering. In May of 1943 he interrupted his college studies to enlist in the Army where heserved for 2 years with the 372ndEngineering Regiment and was the recipient of the European Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Service Star. He was discharged in November of 1945, having achieved the rank of Staff Sargeant. In 1946 Bill returned to Ohio University and completed his civil engineering degree.Bill went on to work for Cadillac Glass Company in Cleveland, Ohio for 40 years. He retired in 1991.  Bill married Margaret (Peg) Redlin in 1949 in University Heights, Ohio having met at Ohio University. They were happily married for 67 years. Peg passed away in February of 2017. Bill was a member of Gesu Parish and the Slovenian National Home. He enjoyed the outdoors and was the Scoutmasterat Gesu Church for 10 years.He also volunteered at the Cleveland Playhouse and was a docent at Lakeview Cemetery. Bill is survived byhis sister Marie Thielman of Wickliffe, Ohio; his son, William (Kathy), daughters Johanna Curson, Mary Bronza (Dave), Gretchen Calabrese, Kristina Jeswald; and grandchildren William Petrovic (Sarah), Angela and David Bronza, Carly and Chase Calabrese, Alyssa (Taylor), Nicole and Jessica Jeswald;and his nieces and nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at Gesu Church, University Heightson Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.  A visitation will be held in the Church lobby one hourprior to the memorial service. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at that time.Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
