Timothy E. Wood

February 22, 1951 - March 22, 2022

Timothy E. Wood, 71, beloved husband of Maria (nee Basar), loving father of Kevin (Alaina) and Ryan (Jessica); grandfather to Remington and baby boy Wood due in July 2022; beloved son of Florence Wood (nee Ruppe), (deceased); brother to Kathleen and Dennis (both deceased), Rita Prinzo, and Laura (Dave) Weglicki; fun-filled uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend passed peacefully into eternal life on March 22, 2022 after a courageous fifteen year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Tim’s quick wit and humor lightened the lives of all who knew him. Tim enjoyed playing and watching all sports. He ran track in high school, took fishing trips to Canada and skiing trips out west. He bowled on several leagues, played softball in his younger days and volleyball even when Parkinson’s made it difficult, but his special passion was golf. He even achieved the rare feat of a hole-in-one. He took many golfing trips to Myrtle Beach and enjoyed watching the practice round of the Master’s in Augusta, Georgia with his sons in 2009. Tim was a devoted father who went to all of his sons’ golf matches and bowling tournaments. Tim enjoyed simple pleasures like watching summer rain fall and bird watching in the parks. He always kept busy cutting the grass, working around the house, shoveling snow (no snow blower for him) and washing his cars, especially his 1976 Buick Regal and his 1987 Corvette. Tim and Maria quietly, but joyfully and with gratitude to God, celebrated forty years of marriage last summer. Tim was a humble supporter of the Montessori School of University Heights, encouraging and supporting Maria’s work there. He carried boxes, helped set-up the classroom, attended parent dinners, accepting the long hours during the school year, and tolerated the growing amounts of Montessori clutter in the basement. He served as the President of the school’s parent corporation from 1999 to 2012. In his struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, Tim maintained his sense of humor and demonstrated patient endurance, bearing his burden bravely without complaint. The Holy Family Home Hospice team and Home Instead caregivers made it possible for Tim to remain at home and provided compassionate care for Tim in the last year of his life. Tim was a quiet man of faith, living as a witness to Christ in the way he worked diligently, loved others with kindness, compassion and acceptance, and enjoyed life fully even in adversity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
