Roger Lon Pope

Roger Lon Pope age 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 22, 2024. Roger was born on December 19, 1948, to Elisha Lon Pope Jr. and Betty Marie Pope (nee Grove). He spent his childhood in Shaker Heights, Ohio, before moving to Valley View, Ohio, during his sophomore year in high school. He played football for Cuyahoga Heights High School and graduated in 1967. He was drafted in 1969 and did his basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was enlisted into The Special Forces. As a Green Beret, Sergeant Pope served with distinction earning two bronze stars for heroism. He was wounded and received a purple heart; he carried the shrapnel in his chest until he died. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces from February 7, 1969, until Honorably Discharged on February 5, 1972. He returned home to Valley View, Ohio and drove trucks for Cleveland Freight Lines and as an independent trucker. He retired in 2010 and enjoyed cookouts with family and friends. He visited family in Georgia and Tennessee. He loved playing volleyball and eating popcorn. Roger loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and his church family at Valley View Village Church. He is survived by his sisters, Donna P. Lloyd (Gary) of Jasper Georgia, Jennifer Graceffo (Larry) of Northfield, Ohio; honorary stepdaughter Jessica Kadish (Rob) of Brecksville, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.  

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Valley View Village Church 11401 Tinkers Creek Rd. Valley View, OH 44125. A luncheon will follow.

Burial and Military Honors will take place at 2:15 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, Ohio 44273.

Timothy G. Greenfelder

February 26, 1958 – February 14, 2024

 

Timothy Gerard Greenfelder age 65, peacefully passed away on February 14, 2024 at

the Diplomat Healthcare in North Royalton, Ohio. Dearest son of late Marge (Benes) and Harold Greenfelder; beloved brother of Donald J. (deceased) (Diane), Dennis A., and David P. Sr. (Peg);

loving Uncle of Sarah Petz (Correy), David P. Jr. (Tricia), Seth Greenfelder and Dana Gough (Doug); great-uncle of Jackson Petz, Logan Petz, Max Christopher, Ethan Kuchta, Carter Kuchta, Mary Kuchta, Angelina Greenfelder, and David P. Greenfelder III. Tim was born in Maple Heights, Ohio on February 26, 1958. He attended St. Monica School in Garfield Heights and Maple Hts. High School.

Tim was a loving, genuine, and kind man. May God wrap His loving arms around you Tim and

fill you with His peace and joy. Your family will miss you.

Caring Burial services were arranged by Vito-Nero Funeral Home, 6130 Turney Road, Garfield Heights, Ohio 44125.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Martin of Tours, 14600 Turney Road, Maple Heights, Ohio 44137.  Reverend Luigi C. Miola, Pastor and Officiant.

Interment took place at All Saints Cemetery, 480 Highland Rd. Northfield, Ohio 44067.

 

 

 

 

Arthur Francis Rothacker

October 25, 1938 - February 23, 2024

He was the third of 12 children of Vernon and Lillian Delaney Rothacker (both deceased).  He was the loving brother of Sheila Kingsmill (Ralph, deceased), Sharon Bicker, Mary Steen (Fred, both deceased), Kathleen Liberatore (Chester, deceased), Patricia, James (Laura, deceased), Paul, Rita Lewis (David), Anita Glenboski (deceased) (Raymond), Phyllis McCullough (Patrick) and Michael (Robin). Honorary brother of Joe Ferritto. Beloved Uncle of Lisa Richards and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was a man of many talents and a very hard worker.  Over the years Arthur worked as a welder, a construction worker and a mechanic.    Art could put his hand to anything successfully, whether it was painting or siding or roofing a house, working on a plumbing or electrical problem, fixing a furnace, any problems on a car, or a hundred other problems that crop up.  Art spent his life fixing things for other people.

Arthur really loved the great outdoors.  He spent many hours on his wooded property.  He loved nature and often spoke about the wildlife and trees on his property.  He loved to hunt, fish and shoot.  He also spent his time at his sister’s cottage near Pymatuning helping out with fixing what needed fixing.  In his younger years he was a very good bowler and was on leagues for many years. 

He amused many people with his stories about Bigfoot and UFOs and the wildlife on his property.  He taught all of us many things.  He will be missed by all.  Rest in Peace.  You earned a heavenly reward!

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at Our Lady Of Peace 12601 Shaker Blvd. Cleveland, OH 44120.

Candace Svitak

June 8, 1947 - February 17, 2024

Candace (Candy) Renee Svitak (nee Staller), 76, passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2024 at Marymount Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on June 8th, 1947 to Francis and Georgina (nee Knapp) Staller in Bellevue, OH.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis E. Svitak of Maple Heights; loving son, Todd A. Gauman of Cleveland; brother Randy (Barb) Staller of Amherst; Murphy, her cherished dog, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by parents Francis and Georgina (nee Knapp) Staller; sister Sandra Powers; brother George Staller; and stepson, Craig Svitak.  Candy enjoyed a life filled with laughter and joy with dear family, friends, and colleagues, as well as her many furry friends. She and Dennis enjoyed traveling and visiting with family, as well as participating in church activities at the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Seven Hills. She shared a special bond with her son, Todd, taking in many music concerts and events together through the years.

The family will receive guests on Friday, February 23rd, 2024 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Vito-Nero Funeral Home, 6130 Turney Road, Garfield Heights, OH 44125.

Interment will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 2024 at noon at Crown Hill Cemetery 8592 Darrow, Rd. Twinsburg, OH 44087. (PLEASE MEET AT THE CEMETERY).

Robert J. Phillips

January 27, 1954 - February 10, 2024

Robert J. Phillips age 70. Dearest son of the late Peter and Olga (nee Ristau); beloved cousin of many.

Service: Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Monica Church 13623 Rockside Road Garfield Hts., OH 44125.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Vito-Nero Funeral Home 6130 Turney Rd. Garfield Hts., OH 44125. And on Saturday from 11:30 – 12:00 p.m. at St. Monica Church prior to mass.

Albert J Ruiz

April 8, 1928 -February 12, 2024

Albert Joseph Ruiz age 95. Beloved husband of 42 years to the late Norma (nee McConnell); loving son of Doroteo and Vincenza (both deceased); cherished father of Connie Wargo (Ernie) and Diane Ficzner (Tom); loving grandfather of Cheri, Catherine (Brian), David, Brett (Mandy), and Kelly (Scott); great-grandfather of Kyle, Jacob, Brynn, Brook, and Landyn; loving brother of Frank, Vincenta, and the following deceased: Augustine, Natalie, Julius, Earl, Peter, and Victoria. Albert was a proud US Navy Veteran, member of American Legion of Maple Heights, and Knights of Columbus. He was originally from Chicago; Al came to Cleveland in 1951 and worked as an Engineer for 40 years. He was a mentor to many in the engineering field. Al enjoyed his family, golf, and especially walking and swimming.

Service: Friday, February 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Monica Church 13623 Rockside Rd. Garfield Hts., OH 44125. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and on Friday 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Vito-Nero Funeral Home 6130 Turney Rd. Garfield Hts., OH 44125.

Donald C. DePaulo

June 29, 1937 - February 9, 2024

Donald C. DePaulo age 86. Loving husband of Diane (nee Martin); dearest father of Denise (deceased), Michael (deceased), and Steve DePaulo (Veronica); grandfather of Erin and Everett DePaulo; great-grandfather of Charles.

Christine Krol

On January 3, 2024, Christine Krol passed away at age 75. She was born to the late Henry and Sofie Bielinski in Germany. Christine is the dear mother of Gregory J. Krol (Christine), Kimberly Krol (Chad Guyer), and Michelle Krieger (Kristopher) and loving grandmother of Kailey, Sabrina, Harlie, Grace, and Andrew. Christine leaves behind her caring nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her loyal dog companion, Stash.

Christine was an exceptional individual who unconditionally loved her family; “Gram” cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and more. After her retirement from S&H Industries, Christine worked as a crossing guard for the Garfield Heights School District; she took great pride in both occupations. Chris was an avid reader, a craft enthusiast, and had a knack for gardening. She loved a good polka dance paired with pierogis.

Christine was a ray of sunshine in every life she has touched. While her family grieves this loss, they choose to remember her in a way that honors her spirit. A celebration of her beautiful life will take place on Sunday, January 28th from 1-4 pm at St. Andrew Church Hall located at 7700 Hoertz Rd, Parma OH.

Carol M. Ozello

October 20, 1937 - December 29, 2023

Carol Marie Ozello (nee Drap), age 86, passed away suddenly on December 29, 2023. Beloved wife of Jim for 65 years. Loving mother of Jim, Thomas (Kathleen), Carol (Bill), Agnes, and Wally (Kate). Loving grandmother of Anderson, Thomas, Hudson, Jackson, Anna, Rachel, Sara (Brian), Kellie, Meaghan, John, Hannah and Sam and cherished great-grandmother of Lylah and Michael. 

Carol was a sweet, kind and loving person who always had a huge plate of food for every visitor to her house. She always thought of everyone else first and herself last.

Family will welcome visitors for a showing on Friday, January 5, from 4-7pm at the Vito-Nero Funeral Home, 6130 Turney Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44125. Family and friends are welcome to a service on Saturday, January 6, at 10am at the Vito-Nero Funeral Home.

Jack Adams

Jack Adams age 88, of Willoughby passed away on November 30, 2023. Cherished father of Cynthia Kurian (Darryl), and Debra Fawcett (Kevin Swan). Loving Grandfather of Joshua Skolmowski (Jessie), Brenda Cain, Jamie Heikell, Jake Fawcett (Satomi), Emily Bartholomai (Donald), and Ryan Fawcett. Beloved Great Grandfather of Erin & Aidan Cain, Eliana Skolmowski, Gunther Borris, Remington & Oakley Bartholomai, Ethon & Nora Scott, Kennedy Znidarscic, and Mia Fawcett.

Jack grew up in the Ozarks of Missouri in a family of farmers and sharecroppers. It was there where he hunted and trapped with his grandfather and developed a love of nature and the outdoors. His family moved to California when he was a teenager. There he married and started a family. As a father he enjoyed family activities such as biking, skating and yard games with neighborhood families and friends. In mid-life he spent a lot of time in the San Gabriel mountains of California, hiking and panning for gold. After retirement he joined his daughters in Ohio and took up painting and photography, his favorite subjects being animals and landscapes. Jack went into nursing care some time ago due to developing dementia. He always had a good sense of humor and was loved by the nurses, caregivers, and other residents of his nursing home. He will be missed by all.
